Jake’s worst enemy…

…the sun. Sure he looks harmless enough, but don’t let the cute little smiley face fool you. There is a malicious enemy behind that smile that is always out to get Jake. I think it’s Jake’s freckles…and white skin. The sun is anti-freckle and anti-white skin. So whenever Jake is out in the open and vulnerable, the sun attacks with a fury. Jake had a lifeguard certification course this weekend. Thursday and Friday’s sessions didn’t start until 5:00 pm, so the sun was already on his way out for the day. Then on Saturday, there were torrential downpours, lightening, hail, and tornadoes keeping the sun at bay. But yesterday…yesterday the sun was out in full force. And Jake didn’t realize until he got to the class that his sunscreen bottle was empty (it’s one of those spray cans, and you can’t really tell how full they are just by feeling them). So he went to spray himself down and nothing but air came out. Terror. He was without any kind of defense. So he had to just take the beating the sun gave him. And let me tell you, when he walked in the door yesterday, he was glowing red. He fought the sun, and the sun won. I don’t know why they can’t get along. But for now, Jake can barely move, and whenever he’s home, the apartment has sort of a reddish aura about it (and it’s not from the dining room walls).
