A true overcomer…

Jennie and I had been planning to run in the Firecracker 5k for a little while now. The last time I was home, I found out that another friend of mine, Brook, had started running, so I invited her to join us. Before I knew it, there was a whole crew from Flomaton coming to run with us, and among those runners was Angie White. If you don’t know Mrs. Angie’s story, then the fact that she came to run/walk the 5K doesn’t mean much to you. In fact, if you knew her before last September, you’d say a 5K would be nothing for her–just an easy morning jog. But all that changed when she was suddenly found to have a brain tumor. I don’t know all of the technical, medical descriptions of what she’s been battling or what she’s had to go through, but I do know enough to know that she is one of the strongest ladies I know. And this past Friday, she completed her first race since discovering that she had cancer. You can read more about her story at the Pensacola News Journal, or watch the report about her on WEAR Channel 3 (I couldn’t get the video to play, but you might have more luck than me). I can’t even describe to you what it was like to see her cross the finish line with Mrs. Jo and Mr. Earnie on either side of her. Here are a few of the pictures I got. There are no words for what she and everyone around her were feeling at that moment. Friday was one of many victories she has had over the last few months, as well as one of many more to come. She truly is an overcomer.

It was an amazing moment when she crossed the finish line! I don’t think there were any dry eyes.

    The video worked for me.

That was such an awesome moment! Your pictures captured it so well. When I watched the video, I felt that excitement all over again. So cool!
