Mrs. McGuire for Hire

That title makes me laugh. :-) But she is available for hire as a hair stylist. For quite some time now, I’ve been debating whether or not to get my hair cut short again. I’ve enjoyed the long hair for the last year or so, but I was just itching for a change. Sometimes I watch those makeover shows, and there are girls on there who love their long hair, but it really just looks dull and stringy. Then they get a new style and the old long hair pictures really start looking bad. I was beginning to wonder if I had become one of those girls. Just holding on to the long hair because it took so much time and patience to grow it out. Our friend Wendy, who just married Scott McGuire (hence the title of this post…), cuts hair. She’s cut my hair once before, but it was just a trim, and nobody even really noticed that I had gotten my hair cut (which was kinda what I was going for). Well, yesterday morning the urge for short hair overtook me, and I immediately checked with Wendy to see if she was available THAT DAY (I’m not demanding or anything). She was, and we set the time. After it was all over, I had a garbage can FULL (and I mean full) of what used to be my long hair. But don’t worry, because I also now have a SUPER cute haircut! (am I allowed to say that about my own hair?) Nevertheless, I LOVE it!

If you’re looking for someone to cut your hair, I HIGHLY recommend Wendy. Because I’m a good friend and I want to keep Wendy’s stalkers to a minimum, I will not be posting her phone number, email, address or other contact information here in cyberspace, but if you’d like to get in touch with her, let me know, and I’ll make it happen. She’s amazing!

Very Very Cute!!! I love it! I want my hair cut short too but I just dont think the short cut is for me. I have curly hair and it can be straight with work. I dunno. But I want something differernt but just dont wanna go CHOPPING my hair off without knowing how its going to look. got any suggestions?

Oh, don’t ask me. I’m not good with that sort of thing. I’ve had short hair a lot in my lifetime, so it doesn’t scare me. But I’m not good at picking out hairstyles for people.

I love it! I just might be hiring Mrs. McGuire to cut my hair soon!!! It looks fabulous!

Thanks! I told her I’d send as many people her way as I could. She said she’d like to get back to cutting hair more often (she hasn’t done as much since she’s been here in New Orleans…but I’m pretty sure she had a relatively large clientele in Birmingham.)

    Thanks, Aunt Jane!

Love it! Yesterday, I was talking to Travis about getting my hair cut- I just can’t decide if I want a trim or a full-blown cut. I think I would like to have short hair so it isn’t easy for Sam to pull on once he makes his debut, but my idea of short hair requires more work than the, technically, short hair that I have now. I also grew my hair out of Locks of Love right before Katrina and I have been thinking about doing that again- thus negating the need for a cut. Anyway, hair decisions are always crazy for me, but I think you made an excellent decision and it looks GREAT on you (not that your long hair didn’t look good, because it did.)

As for the bid, booties, and hat, she makes them from memory. She is in her 70s and lost the pattern in Katrina. :( However, since she has made SO MANY in her life, she knows the patterns by heart and just starts crocheting. I would suggest looking through the, sometimes boring, pattern books at a fabric store and seeing if your friend can’t find something there- or maybe googling for a pattern. I dunno since I have a sewing machine and don’t know how to thread it, pattern searching isn’t something I do often. HA!

It looks great!! I think it makes you look older (in a good way :)) But your hair has always looked great to me (except for that school picture one year)
I too have been thinking about getting my hair cut shorter. Sounds like a popular idea. Maybe it’s the summer heat.

…we’ve been over this–I was NOT about to let my mother fix my hair for the fourth-grade school pictures. No self-respecting fourth-grade girl would! Granted, the not so successful results of my attempt at styling my own hair at age 9 are now forever preserved in a photograph on your refrigerator (thanks Mom), but just consider the great joy it must have given you to see your daughter step out in independence to do something for herself…something I know was rare for me as a child. ;-)

I think we need a copy of that pic for our refrigerator! :-)

Only if we can also put up the picture of you from the “backstreet boy” phase…

You are totally allowed to say that you have a super cute haircut. Diana, you look beautiful! I love the new do!!! Great decision!!! Someday we need to hang out.

  13. Dave

Do you guys have some ‘fro pics of Jake on your fridge? Those would look nice in the kitchen! :)

As you well know, I’ve had my hair short for a while now, so I’m not scared either!

Was that a comment about you NOT being an independent child? Just making sure I read that correctly :)

Marianne–Thanks! I would LOVE to see you guys again…Darn that $4.00+ gas! (of course, we know now that your husband was right here in New Orleans, had the opportunity to see and hang out with us, and passed it up…I don’t know if we’ve quite forgiven him for that yet.) :-)

Dave–I don’t know that “no hair” can really be considered “short hair.” Now if YOU grow a fro, we will definitely reserve a prominent place on the fridge for that picture. And don’t say it’s not possible…I’m not opposed to perming it to make it happen…

  15. Dave

I’ll start working on it right away! You might be able to perm the sides!

It looks nice. Im your brother, hence, thats all you’ll get.

P.S. Don’t complain about negative situations having to do with something mama did, or didn’t do. YOU never got gapped up.
