American Idol, Season 8

American IdolJust got through watching last night’s American Idol episode. I’ve never been much of an Idol fan until last season. And then I just fell off the deep end. I HAD to see every episode. Since last season, though, I honestly hadn’t thought much about it. Until this weekend. When I saw a promo for the season premier airing on Tuesday. And then all of a sudden I found myself way more excited about a TV show than I would ever really admit to anybody. Jake and I don’t usually watch TV shows when they air on TV. We download them and watch them at our convenience (sans commercials…does it get any better than that?) So last night we watched Tuesday’s episode, and tonight we watched last night’s episode. In these early episodes I find myself staring at the TV thinking, “Really?” Surely somebody loves these people enough to let them in on the little secret that maybe singing isn’t for them. I mean, some of the people on there have a reasonable amount of talent, but aren’t exactly Kelly Clarkson. I can understand that. Just because someone can sing doesn’t mean they can be a star. I’m not talking about those people. I’m talking about the ones that make you kind of cringe, and squinch up your face, and think in concerned, worried, I’m-so-embarrassed-for-you kind of way “oh, sweetie…please stop…” Or the ones that make you think, “What just happened? Are they really being serious?” Like the banana guy last night…

So anyway, I’m super excited to see where things go. I’ll be watching all along, but I don’t get really into it until we get down to about 24 contestants. Do any of you guys watch? What do you think so far?

Oh, and one more thing—-I’ve decided that some of Paula’s faces and mannerisms remind me a LOT of my Oma. For those of you who know Oma, start watching Paula’s looks from now on, and tell me if I’m crazy or if there’s something there. And if you’re reading this Oma, you’re still much prettier than Paula. :-)

Em and I lost interest after Carrie Underwood won. We were pulling for Bo Bice (Alabama Connection) and thought he should have won, but another pretty face won (and thankfully she was legit). We just don’t watch anymore. With the addition of a 4th judge, I think the show might have already “Jumped the Shark.” Besides, by the time we get the kids in the bed, clean up, and finally get down for the evening, some other show that we want to watch is on, or we just go to bed! Remember, were old people! :)
