Well, I think you’ve all waited patiently enough. The big new is….. (drumroll, please)…..I have a new job! I know that lots of you have been praying for us over the last couple of months regarding this particular item of business. Let me personally thank you. As for the details of this job change, I’ll still be a secretary (I know, not my life-calling, but wait, it gets better…), and I’ll be working at a school/church here in the city. The principal and the pastor (both of whom will be my bosses) both seem wonderful. I look forward to getting to know them a little better. The best part is, I’ll be working part time and making about as much as I’m making right now working full-time. Why would Diana want a part-time job, you may ask? Well, Diana would like to devote more time to ministry at the church and in the neighborhood (specifically this summer when we’ll have a sports camp every afternoon for the neighborhood kids), and Diana would like to pursue this photography habit a little more, and Diana would like to be able to maintain some semblance of an orderly household, and Diana would like to be able to see her husband at some point in the middle of all that. I’m still hoping that one day I’ll be able to pay the bills doing something I actually enjoy. But for now, if I have to sit at a desk to pay the bills, I’d rather spend 20 hours a week punching a time-clock than 40 hours a week. And tossing some elementary kids into the mix does make that desk job a little less boring. :-) I’m pretty darn excited about it all, to be honest.
The worst part, however, is that I really love the people I work with now. And Laura just found out that they’re going to have a little Riley Whitlow instead of a little (insert girl name here). And I’m not looking forward to missing out on all that fun. But we do still live here. And Jake is still in school. And I’ll still be able to find time to stop by for a visit. Maybe take the daily walk to the HSC. :-)
Also, just for the sake of adding some pictures to this otherwise wordy and somewhat boring blog post, last week I made the curtains for the dining room. Finally. We’ve only lived here for, oh, 5 months now. It takes a lot of work to make curtains for 9-foot windows for an entire house. So just back up, ok? :-)
I have this sewing machine that belonged to my grandmother and maybe my Aunt Genie I think? My mom could tell you for sure. All I know is that it’s really cool, and it’s pink. And that makes it way more fun.
It sat in my mom’s house for quite some time, and I think that she was under the impression that it didn’t work any more. She has a sewing machine already, so when we moved and I knew I wanted to make the curtains, I asked if I could use the pink one. We fired it up, and sure enough, the thing works. Like a charm, actually.
Curtains just make a room feel complete. Put together. Finished. For the longest time, our dining room has just seemed like an empty spare room. But it feels much warmer and cozier now.
I think the curtains also make the orange make more sense. Everybody that come in our house says, “Now, did you guys pick out these colors?” Yes. And I like them. But I understand why someone might walk into our empty, unfinished-looking, orange dining room, and wonder if we just haven’t gotten around to painting it some normal color yet. But now, I think the orange has some confidence and purpose about it. The curtains just seem to have that effect. At least in my opinion they do.

YaY! That is exciting! I hope that you love your new job and it is great that you will be working part time! I know that you are going to be missed at ProDoc though. When do you start?
Jacque, I knew you would have something to say about this, but I had no idea you’d be so quick about it. :-) My “last day” in ProDoc is Wednesday, and I start at the other job on Friday. I put “last day” in quotes, because they haven’t hired a replacement yet, so I’ll probably be going back in the afternoons some until they do. And then I’ll go back to train the new person. So I’m not quite cutting all ties just yet. :-)
Great job on the curtains, Diana. You have so many talents. I’d like to think that maybe I had a hand in the sewing talent, or maybe it’s genetic. Have fun at your new job. Love ya!
