View from the River

As we were cruisin’ on down the Mississippi headed out of New Orleans, we got really excited (to an embarrassing degree) about spotting places we knew in the city. Childish, I know. But there’s something fun about being far away and up really high and seeing the normally mundane things from a totally different perspective. And then we came up along where our house is. (We live about 5 blocks from the river.) So what did I do? I took a picture. (Actually a FEW pictures, to be more accurate.) You can’t so much see in this picture what we saw from the very top deck of the cruise ship, but it’s still kinda fun to me. Douglass High School is on the corner opposite the church (if the streets were two straight lines, then Grace and Douglass would be vertical angles…some things are just easier to explain with geometry…annnnnnnndddd, I’m a nerd.) Our house is right next door the the church (both face away from the River). Just trying to give you your bearings. So anyway, here’s the little not-quite-aerial photo I took, with a few notations to help you out.

Great picture. But why did you have to confuse me with all that math stuff? What’s wrong with “the church is ‘catty-corner’ from the school? We, simple-minded people, can understand that.
